my playlist:: post-xmas ::

I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" the other day and was blown away by it! What was even more impressive was the soundtrack! I've always had a thing for the upbeat sounds of Indian music, maybe cause my name is Indian? Even M.I.A. made a few appearances...how supercalafragalisticexpialidocious!

M.I.A. & A.R. Rahman- O...Saya
Mr. Rahman is a film composer whose work has been featured in countless Bollywood films and in "Inside Man" (MY MAN, DENZEL!)

I found this song while reviewing this bands album for OPI at KUCI. I'm not hooked on the album but 3 or 4 songs were good enough to talk about. This band is actually not from Barcelona, but from Sweden. Did I mention they consist of 30 members?? Cat fight, rawr!

This songs from their debut album "Remind me in 3 Days" which was featured in Rolling Stones magazine's top 50 albums of 2008. All you Entourage lovers have probably heard this song in the promo for the "Return to Queens Blvd." episode. Shwing!

I just really love the transition from verse to chorus in this song. That's what my Music 8 Professor would call, a hook. I'M HOOKED!

Hand Clapping song. It's cute...

Take me there?

Starry Nights

After the last post's somewhat Debbie Downer-esque songs, I'm going to turn the knob UPSIDE and present a block of stars, amore', Earl Gray tea on Sunday mornings, whimsical, Hayden Christensen, Gypsy Punk dances & Grease lightening fun songs...(lala these are a few of my favoooorite things lala)..

It shouldn't have taken me so long to premiere this song. But, ALAS it's in your ears...
I wish I could tell you about them, but I'm at a loss of identity. Just go to myspace.com/bagraiders

This band is too new to be so good. They opened for Amy Winehouse in their hometown of Copenhagen, Denmark (so at least we know why their music is so happy), they've already been featured in an Apple commercial AND Gnarls Barkley is on their top 20 friends on Myspace (actually, that means nothing to but Yay Gnarls Barkley!) From my understanding, they don't even have a full album yet! So just check out their website, www.theasteroidgalaxytour.com for updates

For all you Gogol Bordello lovers, I present to you...FIREWATER! And for more Gypsy Punk, check out Balkan Beat Box, a band formed by an EX Gogol Bordello band members (boo or yay?)

For the ultimate collaboration album, check out "In the Reins-EP," an album by Calexico and Iron & Wine. It's symbolizes beautiful loneliness.

Sadly, after Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" single, the world turned against them. This song is one of my favorites from 2008, and their album "The Odd Couple" was no disappointment. If you're into the hand-clapping, bluesy, funk sound, you'll definitely reconsider supporting these guys.

I GOT KLAXONS FEVER! HEY! YOU GOT KLAXONS FEVaaaaah!

Put on dem roller skates cause this one takes me back to my days in the disco rinks (well, at least that's what I would've said if I was actually alive in the 70's)...oh shurup it's just a really fun song...

This girl is BADASS! She released her debut album "Santogold" this year and BAM! she's soon to replace M.I.A. (who the masses killed after Paper Planes...& never recognized for her other sweet tunes). She's dub, she's reggae, she's new wave, she's Santogold (TADAAAA!) Check her out www.myspace.com/santogold

That's it for now. BE GONE. <3

By: Magda Biskup

By: Lakshmi Prabhala

These sceneries fill me up with warm, fuzzy feelings (or maybe that's just the side effects of the living room heater..) & they are the peanut butter to these jelly songs... :)

Nish's tip: forget where you really are...

(BEAAAUUUUUTIFULLLL)

(The Strokes gorgeous drummer Fabrizio Moretti's new band with Rodrigo Amarante)

(A song that makes me live in the present...with a smile, and anticipation for the future)

(sweet much?)

(Friendly Fires... my favorite band of 2008)

(22 year old, music prodigy, Zach Condon's band...with the most whimsical & nostalgic sound my ears have ever heard...Beirutband.com)

(I couldn't possibly leave this one out <3)

(For the lonely-hearted)

These songs should've either made you want pull an Alice and go to Wonderland, ride a bike through a cluster of birds (just for the fuck of it), stare at a loved one (without blinking, of course) or cry for no reason at all (man-up!)...

Next time will be a jollier block of songs...my promise to you...til then, I leave you with more Fabrizio..hunka hunka

Ciao!

Chop Shop Records has done it again!

Alexandra Patsavas, owner of Chop Shop Records, is like the heroin of the Music Supervision industry. She is the most sought after music supervisor, working on films & TV shows such as Twilight, Grey's Anatomy, The OC, Mad Men & Gossip Girl. She's been named "Entertainment Marketer of the Year" and glorified as one of the "Top Women in Music" by Billboard. She's responsible for turning indie band, Death Cab for Cutie an overnight sellout (gee, thanks)...& for the fame and glory of a bunch more kickass bands!!

Here are a few of my favorite songs that Alexandra premiered in some pretty guilty-pleasure movies and shows (so what!? I enjoy Vampires & Upper East Side New York brats!)

From the movie, Twilight:  Edward (sigh)

(scary much?)

(world's furriest man- all heil Sam Beam!)

Music from the "should've cancelled this show after Tijuana alcohol abuse" show, The OC: that show with that California song..yeah that one...viva la Phantom Planet!

Oh, that band that JASON SCHWARTZMAN's in..RIIIIGHTT...

Thank you, OC, for Sufjan Stevens, thank you...

Until next time.... <3>
