Let's Fly for a Moment

I wish I wasn't suddenly afraid of heights so that I could become a carnival big swing professional rider...

Royksopp- Happy Up Here
Less famous for their music involvement in the Geico "Caveman" commercials, Royksopp is due to release their new album "Junior" (sometime soon)! Rumor has it that Lykke Li, Anneli Drecker, Robyn, and the Knife’s Karin Dreijer will make an appearance on Royksopps's third full length studio album. "Happy Up Here" is easily going to be everyones new alarm clock ring tone :)

Yeasayer- 2080
Toured with MGMT & Beck in 08 AND played @ Roskilde Festival. 'Nough.

Modest Mouse vs. Ratatat- Beat #6 Vs. The World At Large
Special K picked this track for last Wednesday's show. All together now.."THANKS SPECIAL K!"

Sigur Rós- Hoppípolla
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!!!!! No description necessary, just a state of mind...

Free the Robots- Jazzhole
Jazz meets hip hop meets some psychedelic sounds. Chris Alfaro IS Free the Robots. What started off as a side project blew up to such heights as sharing the stage with the likes of Prefuse 73, Afrika Bambaataa, Flying Lotus, and Devotchka.

Crystal Castles- Courtship Dating
It's like a combination of sexy and badass. I think that's what defines Crystal Castles anyways....

It's been a while....

*Sigh*
This week has been a roller coaster (& I am not strapped in, maybe I should hold with care but my hands are busy in the air saying: iiiii wiiiisssh youu were heeeeeeereeee) -- woops, sidetrack-- so, yes, I've been fortunate enough to dig through KUCI's library and find me some nice tracks. here we go fellas....oh and gOBAMA :)

Matt & Kim- Yea Yeah
Brooklyn band formed in 04 by Matt (Johnson) & Kim (Schifino) who played at Lollapalooza in 2007. They've got a simple, dance rhythm going, it's workin' for them, me likey!!& yay they're playing at The Troubadour on Feb. 4th** www.mattandkimmusic.com

The Bird & The Bee- Come As You Were
Thanks Special K for this super fine song! The "bee" is Greg Kurstin and the "bird" is Inara George. Kurstin, a producer and keyboardist who has worked with Lily Allen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Beck, The Flaming Lips, Kylie Minogue and Red Hot Chili Peppers, is also a member of the band Geggy Tah. The Bird and The Bee's songs have been featured in Grey's Anatomy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Sex and the City: The Movie. Uh...niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. www.thebirdandthebee.com

Alice in Wonderland- Alice in Wonderland
Slice, dice, mix and blend of clips of acid trippers favorite Disney movie "Alice in Wonderland." Keeps me hoping for a Little Mermaid mashup <3

Coconut Records- Microphone
YAY! Coconut Records released their new album, "Davy," 2 days ago :D (Davy like Davy Jones?) Anyways, whatever Jason Schwartzman touches turns to gold so I have high expectations for the new album.

Little Boots- Love Kills (Buffetlibre vs. Sidechains remix)
Wha whaaaa!? Little Boots @ Cinespace on Feb 3!? aaahh yeeeeeeee :) www.myspace.com/littlebootsmusic. This remix is heart pounding, can't stop dancing, CAN'T. STOP. DANCING. enjoy...

Helio Sequence- Back to This
This band is like an energizer battery. They get better, and better and better. Their 2008 album "Keep Your Eyes Ahead" deserves an overall 8.5/10 (that's good!)

Phoenix- If I Ever Feel Better
Very underrated band. They're fab dude just fab! Their song "Run, Run, Run" was featured in an episode of The O.C. and did I mention that they're French!? This song dates back to 2001... oh and their music was in Lost in Translation too! COOL

Misha- Crystal in Love
Sadly, I don't know much about this awesome awesome awesome band. Soooo www.myspace.com/Mishatheband

!Mayday!

It's a sad thing when school starts, takes over your freedom (or as most people would call these past 3 weeks- "winter break") & leaves you no time to update Tune Parade. What's worse is that my iTunes is empty due to a failed attempt at upgrading my internal hard drive leaving me with a long, horrifying week with no music to listen to. With that said, I will be linking this blogs' songs to youtube videos which are just as cool cause sometimes people make their own videos and it just looks so dumb but hey, that's entertainment for you. Let's begin.....

Noah and the Whale- 5 Years Time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8YCSJpF4g4
I love this song. This song IS love. It's a tropical feel good tune. Not to mention, the lyrics are <3
Oh, well, i look while you’re saying: “it’s the happiest that i’ve ever been”
And i’ll say: “i love to feel that i have to be james dean”
And you say: “yeah, and i feel a pretty happy too,
and i’m always pretty happy when i’m just thinking about with you”

Ladyhawke- My Delirium
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKrBlIXzI5I
Her debut album was just released in September 2008 & I'm already waiting for more goodies from her. I first heard her song "Paris is Burning" when Cut Copy remixed it. Now I don't need Cut Copy no mo! She is currently on tour with the Ting Tings but they won't be making an appearance in the US (grrrr dskfds). check it www.myspace.com/ladyhawkerock

Jape- Floating (D.I.M. remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3_PKoEhLII
D.I.M. makes the ultimate remixes (Presets- My People d.i.m. remix---> yeah, this good!) They'll be spinning at Hard Fest in March...on to Jape...honeslty can't say much about them, their info is vague, but youtube them. sorry.

Illinois- Nosebleed
http://hypem.com/search/Illinois%20-%20Nosebleed/1/
I heard this song during an episode of HBO's "True Blood." If you like vampires, a banjo with a twist, and cute boys from Bucks County, Pennsylvania then you'll like Illinois. They're so different, so good, it hurts.

Empire of the Sun- We are the People
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YN2lsrWN34
Calling all MGMT lovers, David Bowie lighning bolt lovers and galactic freaks- I introduce you to Empire of the Sun. I put big cash monay on these guys getting REALLY big in 2009 so claim them before they sell out.

A Block of Sunshine

Yo!
So far, in 2009, I have
1. seen an amazing movie (Milk) <--- put it on your list of to-do's. Sean Penn delivered a flawless performance!
2. enjoyed some gelato
3. started a new book
4. wrapped a present for my Grandma (not a gift for HER, but wrapped FOR her)

I have also admired this adorable picture.

Now onto the music...

Or check out their live performance of "Live in my Head" in Berlin

not that the original wasn't good....

Yeasayer toured with MGMT in 2008, so kudos to them. They describe their music as "Middle Eastern- psych- snap- gospel." I have no clue what that means but I like what I'm hearing. www.myspace.com/yeasayer

These guys could not have described themselves better--> "a robot making love to a tree." I honestly cannot think of words to classify them but all you Mika lovers, check out Ghostland Observatory- Dancin on my Grave!!

Seriously, who would've thought that these guys would someday thank Britney for her comeback. Heck, I'm even thanking her. Their cover of Britney's "Womanizer" is probably the only song that the All American Rejects sing that doesn't send me running for a soundproof room. I like the "WOO"ing and their addition of "Happy Together" by The Turtles, which oddly reminds me of The Flinstones..hm...

Vampire Weekend adds a soukous flavor to the so cute Fleetwood Mac song.

yay! bye!
